Porter & Coogs: Meet Our Newest Account Managers

Two weeks ago, we welcomed Jessica Porter and Craig Coogler as the newest SUPPLY.com employees. Joining our Pro Accounts team, Jessica and Craig bring with them a combined 7 years of account management experience. I recently sat down with Porter and “Coogs” to get the scoop on their backgrounds and their first impressions of SUPPLY.com.

Jessica Porter

Born in Ohio, Porter spent half of her childhood in Chico, California before moving to Georgia in the third grade. “You’ve probably heard of Chico because of Sierra Nevada beer. My dad used to tell us that the porter beer was our family beer. I thought that for a very long time growing up,” she jokes. Although she originally studied acting at Wright State University, Jessica moved back to the Peach State, attended Georgia State, and graduated with a degrees in French and International Business.

Although she doesn’t consider herself a natural salesperson, Porter was drawn to sales early on. “Just like in acting, I feel like figuring out people is like trying to solve a puzzle. People are the wildcard,” she explains. “Ultimately, in sales, it all comes down to building relationships and I like helping people get what they need.” Porter discovered SUPPLY.com through her friend and fellow actor, Taylor Roy. “He said great things about the company, so I decided to check it out,” she says.

Outside of work, Porter loves to explore her creative and athletic sides. “I’m a total arts and crafts nerd. I have my annual ornament making party coming up. I love creating things and whether that’s through my acting or physically making an ornament,” she says. “Right now, I’ve got a contract with my friend’s company, Ever After Entertainment, and spend my weekends at the Georgia Aquarium doing their Halloween show, ‘Georgia A-Scary-Um.’ It’s this crazy, monster, disco review and I’m playing a ghoul. It should be a lot of fun.”

“I was also very proud to run my first half marathon 3 years ago. I decided I was going to finish under 2 hours, which is a 9 minute mile for 13.1 miles. I finished in 1h56m. I’ve done a few since, but that first one was definitely rewarding,” continues Porter. “I hate every second of every run I’ve ever been on, but I love the ‘runner’s high’ afterwards. I’m a total adrenaline junkie. When I turned 18, I said, ‘Time to go skydiving!’”

Craig Coogler

A native Georgian, Craig was born in Lilburn and spent most of his childhood in Dacula. Like many of his new colleagues, “I also went to the University of West Georgia and graduated in 2007 with a degree in psychology and a minor in marketing. I was the orientation leader, the university ambassador, and was also in the Delta Chi fraternity,” he recalls. “I went to college with Cady Lineback, Recruiter, and saw something she posted on LinkedIn. I came out for an interview and the rest is history.”

“So far, the training has been very thorough. It’s a nice change. At other companies, they just throw you to the woods and see if you can figure it out. Here, they make sure that when you hit the floor running, you’re equipped to do it,” he continues. “Regarding the culture, there’s a lot of people who are the same age and live in the same parts of town. I discovered a guy who’s literally my nextdoor neighbor. I also discovered that the company loves lunch meetings, which is awesome.”

In 2013, Coogs was nominated for UWG’s 30 under 30, an achievement he’s proud of. When not busy crushing it, he’s a self proclaimed sports fanatic. “I’m a big supporter of anything Atlanta-based, from the Hawks to the new soccer team. I also love international soccer as well and wake up early to watch Liverpool on the weekends,” says Coogler. When asked to tell a random fact that no one knows about him, Craig reveals, “I once experienced eating the freshest Papaya, off the tree, in the mountains in Haiti… I didn’t like it.”
